MS Dhoni blames batsmen for Kolkata defeat ? Cricket News Update

Indian skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was again left disappointed with the performances of his batsmen after losing the second ODI against Pakistan to hand the tourists a much-deserved series win.

The Men In Green were on course to amass a big score following a 141-run opening stand, but the Indian bowlers struck timely to restrict them to 250. However, they failed to pounce on the advantage and despite putting up 42 for the first wicket; they were limited to 95 for 5 half-way through the innings before being bowled out for 165, leaving their skipper stranded on 54.

The 85-run beating meant that India hit another low under their charismatic skipper, losing their first bilateral ODI series at home in over three years. The final match will be their chance to salvage some pride in front of their home fans. Dhoni said that the team?s failure to keep wickets ultimately proved decisive, despite the impressive recovery made by the bowlers. Ishant Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who came in for Rohit Sharma, took three scalps each, conceding just 34 and 41 respectively.

"The bowlers brought us back into the game," Dhoni said. "The spinners in the second half of the first innings bowled well and the faster bowlers made most of the bounce available off the pitch. But when we went into bat, we lost too many wickets."

Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistani skipper, praised his team for their overall efforts, but singled out the bowling attack and Nasir Jamshed?s contribution. The latter scored his second successive ODI ton to get his side up and running before the bowlers made things considerably tough for the Indian batters.

Junaid Khan again stood out with an exceptional first spell, which yielded two wickets, before Umar Gul did considerable damage by taking out Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh. Saeed Ajmal returned among the wicket-takers by grabbing three in one over, while Hafeez displayed his all-round prowess by staying economical, along with scoring a fluent half-century.

"The bowlers are really doing a great job, especially Junaid who is moving it both ways and asking questions of the batsmen," Misbah said. "Irfan has his height, Gul also bowled well today, and Ajmal and Hafeez always deliver for us."We have the edge in the quality of our bowling. "
